III. Joint Meeting North Kingstown/Jamestown School Committees for Tuition Discussion
(Appendices A1 and A2)
Jamestown School
Committee is asking North Kingstown School Committee to consider an immediate
change in the start date for the tuition year and the formation of a
subcommittee to meet with
· Bill Mudge feels that the School Committee does not have the legal authority to levy funds. Would like Town Council or Town Solicitor’s opinion of the matter.
· Dr. Halley: Issue is contract; not amounts.
·
· Dr. Halley’s response was that the School Committees made the agreement and not the Town Council. Bucky Brennan of the Jamestown School Committee read from the original contract that verified Dr. Halley’s statement.
Because further discussion was needed, this topic was moved to the December 4th Worksession on a motion made by Mike Northup/Carol Hueston 4/0 vote.

· Dr. Robert Binek would like School Committee to be aware of a Pre-Calculus class that has students failing because it is overcrowded with 33 students. – To be placed on 12/4 02 agenda for discussion.

A Policy Subcommittee – Karin Forbes would like to stress to newly elected School Committee members that Policy subcommittee is a very important subcommittee and she would not like to see it overlooked.

IX. Comments
· Michelle Quillin would like to thank the School Committee for the wonderful work they did on the Home Schooling policy. It is well appreciated in the Home Schooling community.
X. Motion to Adjourn
A motion to adjourn, to executive session
pursuant to RIGL 42-46-4 and 42-46-5 (1) and (2) for Personnel Issues*
negotiations, and Home Schooling requests, was made by Carol Hueston /Mike
Northup at 8:37 PM, clock counter 1:39:45.
A vote yielded unanimous approval. The school committee will return to
open session following the executive session; however, no business will be
conducted. *At the election of the
employee, the personnel matter may be heard in public.
