A. Oktoberfest Participation Certificate presented by Mr. Paul Mancini to Ms. Ellen D’Agnenica and Ms. Lisa Giorgianni cc (clock counter) 148- Ms. D’Agnenica and Ms. Giorgianni were presented with plaques by Mr. Mancini of the Choral Company of Cranston in recognition of their guidance of the many Stony Lane Elementary School students who sang during the Oktoberfest event.
B. Child Opportunity Zone Overview by Donna Thompson cc 615
The Child Opportunity Zone (COZ), working in close collaboration with the school department, is standards based. When applying for grants, the following criteria are strongly considered.
§ Support district mission
§ Compliment consolidated resource plan
§ Compliant with SALT school survey areas
§ Support school improvement plans
§ Meet Children’s Cabinet directives (improved attendance, increased family involvement, literacy)
Actual secure money from private/outside sources that runs programs totals $394,000. In the future, Ms. Thompson would like to present monthly on each program under the COZ umbrella- Family Center; Before & After School; Even Start Family Literacy; Parent Development; Parents As Teachers (PAT); Child Outreach Screening; and the Summer School Collaborative.

A. 2001-02 School Budget cc 2646- Dr. Halley reported that there are no significant problems or issues.
B. 2002-03 School Department Goals and Objectives cc 2929
The following goals are considered priorities for the 2001-2002 School Year for the North Kingstown School Department.
1. Program Evaluation- What data is needed? Evaluation areas could include utility, propriety, feasibility, and accuracy.
2. Student Expectations and Opportunities (which includes SPECTRA)- How can high expectations be promoted in every school, in every program, for every student?
3.

4.
High School Accreditation

Reports
A. Policy Subcommittee Report- Karin Forbes reported that the policy on Student Conduct will be on the agenda in January or February.
B. Special Education Local Advisory Committee Report- Dr. DeFrances reported that at their last meeting they discussed the lack of Procedural Safeguards being distributed and the absence of regular teachers at IEP conferences in some cases.
C. RIASC and other Legislative Activity- The guidelines for honorary veterans’ diplomas has been distributed to the school committee.
D. Full Day Kindergarten Advisory Committee Report- Dr. Fitzsimmons and the Kindergarten Advisory Committee will present at the December 19 school committee meeting.
E. School Based Health Center Community Committee- Denise Coppa reported that this committee has not met.

Comments
§ The school committee thanked Donna Thompson for her great work.
§ Barry Martasian commented regarding informing taxpayers about education issues, legislation regarding students correcting other students papers, and inviting people into the classroom, especially the elderly.
