9.11 Commemoration
On September 11, 2002 students and staff at Davisville Middle School participated in a ceremony which commemorated the tragic events and heroic sacrifices which occurred on this date one year ago. The assembly was organized by the DMS Student Council. As a school community we are indebted to the the student council, its advisor Mr. Thibodeau, and all of the teachers and students whose contributions made this a fitting and memorable tribute.

The program began with the
playing of the National Anthem and the recitation of the
Pledge of Allegiance. Officer Jay the DMS resource officer
presented the American flag.

This flag, created by Mrs. Strain's art
students in the days
following September 11th was a focal point of this year's
commemorative assembly. One of the most moving parts of the
assembly was a video of this flag created by Mrs. Sirr.
Two of the student council
officers, Kelsey H. and Jenny C. read poems related to 911.

Mrs. Pfeil the aspiring
principal at DMS shared her thoughts about the significance
of the events of September 11th and the heroism it inspired.
She truly offered some "food for thought".

Students on Team OG created a
paper chain. Each link in the red, white, and blue chain
contained a thought related to the events of 911 and the
impact which they have made on our lives. The students and
teachers united in a human chain and shared these thoughts
with the entire group.

Mrs. Friedman's Team D
language arts classes wrote poems to express their feelings
on the one year anniversary of September 11th. The poems
ranged widely in both format and content. Each represented a
very personal response to these historic events. Each
student on the team read his or her poem.

The entire student body
dressed in red, white, and blue to show their support for
the USA. The student council made red white and blue ribbons
which were proudly worn by students and staff alike.

The assembly ended on a very
upbeat note with everyone dancing and clapping to Bruce
Springsteen's "Born in the USA".
