Art

There are two art teachers at DMS this year, Mrs. Lambert and Mrs. Carlton. Mrs. Lambert's sixth graders in art 1 are creating a color wheel collage.  The seventh graders are finishing the building stages of their coil pots and will be working on a color wheel collage while waiting for their pots to dry out and get fired in the kiln.  The eighth graders are creating Native American baskets.

Mrs. Carlton's    Students are working on a variety of projects. The 6th grade is currently working on creating Eyes of God, good luck fetishes used by many cultures from the Indians to the Egyptians.  Students explored the different meanings of colors and chose their colors according to the meaning and who they were dedicating their Eye of God to.

Some students are also working on painting the set for the play "Something Upstairs" by Avi in collaboration with Mr. Schaeffer and the language arts classes.
Students in the 7th and 8th grades have been exploring the elements and principles of design, line, texture, pattern, value, shape...and their connections to their Math curriculum and the world around them. Projects have included pattern circles, collage and painted color wheels and contour drawings painted in various color schemes including primary colors, the secondary triad of colors an monochromatic colors.
