Music
at DMS
Chorus |
The students at Davisville Middle School have several music options available to them. All students take one quarter of music theory each year. This course is taught by Mr. Thibodeau. Students who play a musical instrument may elect to take band or strings as an elective. Instruction in these areas takes place every other day for the entire school year. Mr. Thibodeau provides instruction in band instruments and overseas the DMS band. An additional band opportunity, jazz band is offered several mornings a week as a before school activity. Students who enjoy vocal music may join the school chorus which also meets every other day for the school year. Mr. Rogers is substituting for Mrs. Young as the chorus instructor this year at DMS. This year there is any additional musical offering, strings. Mrs. Petersen provides instruction on stringed instruments during school hours every other day. In past years the strings program was a before-school program. We are pleased to have this additional offering during regular school hours.
Several times during the school year these groups perform for the students, parents, and community at large. These are always enjoyable events. Members of the groups also compete in statewide competitions and participate in local parades. The music program is a very active one at DMS!
