Mrs. Coppolino and Mr. Blaser
hyField TripTeam S math students have just completed a unit that includes extending patterns, observing sequences, recognizing geometric language, estimating, and following the order of operations.
Now we begin naming shapes, searching for symmetry, and delving into the realm of fractions and decimals.
Please encourage your child to practice the multiplication facts (1-12) regularly. This is an extremely important skill when working with fractions.
Team S is one of the most enthusiastic teams in the school. Team S is always fun and the activities are full of energy. The two Team S teachers are always trying to come up with new, more exciting ways to help us learn. Mrs. Coppolino is our wonderful science teacher and Mr. Blaser is our excellent math teacher. They are both terrific L.A., reading, and social studies teachers.
Welcome to our site!!!
Team S began the year learning about the school, classes, and new rules. Moving from fifth to sixth grade is a challenge for most students, but everyone seems to be making the transition, slowly but surely.
In Language Arts classes, the students have been taking weekly spelling tests, learning about the sentence and its parts, and becoming writers by honing their craft.
Reading classes have been exploring the parts of a novel, participating in Literature Circles, and analyzing characterization while reading Something Upstairs and Number the Stars. The team also went to Bishop McVinney Auditorium to see the live production of Something Upstairs.
The Science classes have been experimenting and studying magnets and motors. They have also been learning different note taking techniques.
The Social Studies classes began the year studying the Five Themes of Geography. We then studied Prehistoric Man and began the study of Mesopotamia.
