Bully Prevention Assembly with Chris Hollyfield
January 6, 2006

The rapt audience of 6th ,7th , and 8th graders at Davisville Middle School were exposed to a national motivational speaker on Bully Prevention. Chris Hollyfield and his partner, Billy Klinke who was unable to attend due to a family emergency, are the messengers of the 3D T.E.A.M. Foundation of Orlando, Florida. The Foundation teachers the 3Ds: Dedication, Determination and Desire to be a friend and not a bully. Their objective is to interact with students and communicate the consequences of teasing and bullying in the schools.

Chris, a 4ft. 4in. former pro wrestler who was once in the ring with the Rock, told the students what it was like to go through school being bullied because of dwarfism, a genetic condition leaving the individual with an average sized torso and head, but shorter arms and legs. Hollyfield said he was mocked so much in school that even his friends were bullied. He relates the time that he was practicing basketball moves at a local Y when a small group of bullyish kids carried him in the locker room and hung him on a coat hook by his belt loop. He sustained injuries when the loop broke and landed him on the floor.

In addition to the presentation, Hollyfield had lunch with the students and gave each his autographed card. He also met with the school’s Peer Leadership Team, a team of 44 students committed to preventing bullying by promoting respect. They discussed ideas on how to make the school a better place to be.
