2nd Quarter Newsletter

At  DMS students in grades 7 and  8 have the option of taking a foreign language. This year French and Spanish are offered in Grade 7.   The school has two Foreign Language teachers, Mrs.Hayes and Mr. Synodi. Mr. Synodi teachers Spanish to students on Teams D and R, French to 7th and 8th graders.  Mrs. Hayes teaches Spanish to students on Team R and Spanish to 7th graders.

Foreign Language Newsletter Second Quarter
French 7th grade- This marking period French students, learned to talk about what activities they do before and after school. They also learned to talk about their school subjects and did a multimedia presentation on the classes take have at DMS in French. Students also started to theater activities to enhance the use of verb actions and conjugation of verbs. They will create a picture journal of what they do before and after school the assessment for their current on before and after school. We are making a lot of good progress learning French!


French 8th grade- This marking period students completed their unit on Air travel and did skits in December in the CLR entitled The Airplane and the Airport. Students from Mrs. Whaley’s, Ms. Signore’s and Mrs. Taylor’s classes came to watch the skits. The performances were well done and very entertaining. We are just about to finish our unit on Train travel and start a Photo Journal project on a Travel trip through France. We are doing well and we have only two more units to do before the end of the year. We will begin reading a short Novel entitled Poor Anne in French in a few weeks.


Spanish- Students did almost three units. One on family and did a presentation about their family. Another on family celebration and we are just finishing the third on my bedroom. Students will be designing their own bedroom and writing about it as the culminating assessment. Students will soon be doing a unit on the house in which they will do a theater performance at the end of the unit. We are making great progress in learning Spanish!


International Club- We have spent a few weeks making piñatas and students we be exploring French culture and are planning to have a Mardi Gras celebration. If you have resources you are willing to share please contact me. I am also looking for anyone willing to speak to the group about particular country or culture.
