DMS is a SmART school! What this means is the school is committed to integrating the arts across the curriculum. Daily discipline-based instruction in dance, music, theatre and the visual arts is the goal of the SmART program. Approximately 50% of the staff at Davisville has been trained in the basics of SmART schools over the past two years. As a result of the training and with the help of Robert Shaffer, our arts integration specialist, the arts are taking center stage at Davisville and several exciting projects have been initiated. The expectation of the SmART program is that music, dance, theatre, and the visual arts will enable students to "...acquire and express new knowledge and understandings of core academic curricula.." (from SmART schools 6 Key Design Elements.)

Mr. Shaffer will be opening an opportunity to all students at DMS by holding a puppet/theater workshop. The program will be held every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and all DMS students are welcome. Mr. Shaffer is open to any ideas and willing to answer any questions about the club. We are excited about getting this workshop started. The goals of this program will be to discover the theater through the art of puppetry. Club members will actually construct hand and rod puppets, create scripts and sets and present a performance. Together they will explore the boundaries of their imaginations.
