Keyboarding is a three-year program. For one quarter of each year, students learn keyboarding skills as well as a variety of computer applications. The following is a guideline of what your son/daughter will be learning this year.
KEYBOARDING 6:
The touch method is introduced through a variety of techniques. The essentials of keyboarding are taught using a program called Type to Learn. The program combines lessons with entertaining activities. As students practice their keyboarding skills, they also practice phonetic spelling patterns, appropriate use of punctuation, synonyms, antonyms, and other elements of written language. In addition to language art skills, students learn about history, geography, and other general knowledge topics, all while they practice their keyboarding skills.
KEYBOARDING 7:
Students entering their 2nd year of the keyboarding curriculum are generally fairly comfortable with the touch method introduced in 6th grade. The emphasis is on reinforcement of keyboarding skills,. Students begin to type a variety of assignments. Proofreader’s marks, centering, editing of text and memo’s are introduced.
