In March of 2006, North Kingstown High School was designated as a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) school by the American School Counselors Association and was recognized during a special ceremony at ASCA’s annual conference in Chicago, Illinois on June 26, 2006.  The RAMP designation recognizes schools that are committed to delivering a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program and an exemplary educational environment.  NKHS is one of only twenty-one schools nationally to achieve RAMP status since the program’s inception.  We are the first school in New England to receive the award and only the seventh high school nationwide to be so honored.  To read more about how NKHS earned this award and what it means, please click here for the press release.

The Guidance Program at NKHS

At North Kingstown High School, school counselors are a vital link to academic, career, and personal social development for all students.  Working in collaboration with other educational programs in the high school, our certified school counselors ensure equity and access to programs and services so that every student is challenged and supported to achieve his/her highest potential.

NKingHigh_04-ExteriorDuskIn 2001, North Kingstown High School adopted the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Standards for School Counseling Programs, which address the academic, career, and personal/social (life skills) needs of all students. Our school counseling staff have been trained in the National Standards and have spent the last three years designing curriculum, programs and services that assist students in learning the knowledge and skills necessary for success. Counselors also measure the results of their programs, using data to determine our successes.

School counselors advocate for the needs of all students by providing guidance and support to maximize each student's potential and academic achievement.  In partnership with other educators, parents, and the community, school counselors facilitate a support system to ensure that all students in North Kingstown are prepared academically and socially with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.

NKHS School Counselors provide support for students through classroom guidance lessons, group counseling session, individual counseling, consultation with parents and teachers and through collaboration with other community resources.  Counseling guidance lessons taught by school counselors in the classroom are intended to give students the knowledge, skills and attitudes that lead to academic, career and personal / social development.  With the District's support and adoption of the National School Counseling Standards, counselors at North Kingstown High School have redesigned their program to provide more direct services to students so that less time is spent in clerical and administrative functions.

Please contact a member of our staff to assist you with any question or issue that you may have.
