
The RI Department of Education, as part of its high school reform movement and in response to input from the business community, has instituted Graduation by Proficiency requirements for all RI public high school students.
Beginning with the class of 2008 students at all RI public high school students will be required by the Rhode Island Department of Education to demonstrate proficiency using two methods selected by their high school. At NKHS the two measures of proficiency are the Senior Project and electronic portfolio. Successful completion of 24 credits, together with an electronic portfolio, and a senior project will demonstrate proficiency in the 12 school wide expectations for North Kingstown High School graduates.
