Desktop Publishing

The purpose of this course is to expose students to the world of Computer Layout and Design. Students will primarily use Adobe PageMaker 6.5 along with CorelDraw 8 to layout and design numerous real life assignments. Students will call upon skills learned earlier in CorelDraw and Photoshop to assist them in their learning.

BEFORE beginning these assignments it is highly recommended that you complete the PageMaker introduction

Assignments:

1. Create a personalized business card.

2.  Menu Design: Design a menu for a Italian, French, Indian or a Tai restaurant. Food and design should be appropriate for chosen Culture. Document your research for the menu/language, menu must have a cover design and a inside right and left side. Add color, photographs and style

3. Promotional Flyer: Design a Promotional flyer for  Blazing Flamingo Hair Salon or Albatross Men's Hair Salon. Your design must include a logo for the flyer, a color photograph, and must utilize one of the tools taught in the tutorial for this lesson.

4. Design a 4 page tri-fold mail piece: Design and Layout a promotional letter for the American Realtors association or North American Seeing Eye Dog Foundation. Use headlines and no more than 4 photographs. You will need a front and a back    (2 sheets)

5. Movie Poster : Design a new movie poster for one of the following; Citizen Kane, It's a Wonderful Life, Gone With The Wind or The Matrix. Poster must show a visual understanding of the movie. It Can NOT BE just the name. Final Size will be 11x17.

6. Advertisement reproduction: Reproduce a current ad- your design must contain similar style graphics and the photograph reproduced for photo assignment #9

7. Promotional Flyer: Design a promotional flyer that is to be mailed out in a trifold configuration. Design must contain 2 photographs, mailing info and text. Final Size 8.5x11.

8.Box Design: Using any or all computer programs recreate a design from a cereal box. Replicate the box to the best of your ability. Box will not need to be cut but visually it should be correct. Final needs to have all crop marks and be  printed on 11x17 paper 

9. CD JACKET: Design a new or recreate a existing CD jacket. Final design must contain a front, side and back.
