MENU DESIGN

 

For your second lesson you will be creating a full menu for one of the cultures listed on the desktop publishing page. Remember to do your research and no points are given for laziness, put in the effort.

1. After opening PageMaker set your page dimensions to 8v x 8.5 h, with zero borders. Set a guide at the half way point of your page in the vertical axis.

2. Design a cover logo for your menu. For your cover design also you will need to incorporate a photo/image of the region of your menu. PageMaker allows you to place photos (jpeg format). To place a image, go to the file menu and select PLACE once you have selected your image your cursor will change to a box with a X in it.

3. Once you have selected your image you have 2 options to placing your image you may just click and your image will appear or you can click and drag until you get the exact size you desire. 

4. If you file is to large you will receive a message stating that this file will occupy so much space do you wish to place the entire image (yes or no) select NO.

5. Your menu must also contain a border design. The best place is probably inside the menu itself. May be a nice border around the entree` list or the deserts? 

6. To place a border select your rectangle or your oval tool and select the outline color of your choice with a fill of X. To change the style of line select from the ELEMENT menu the stroke option, this will show you all the available options. You also have the option of selecting clipart to decorate your menu and borders.

7. Don't be afraid to give your border a shaded fill or design. Remember you have the option to change the TINT of the fill, and the color of the border.

8. Would your border look better with rounded corners? Oh! Please Mr. King continue. To round the corner of your selection from the element menu the rounded corners option. This only works on rectangles.
