1,2,Tree

The Puma team has been working on a project called 1,2,Tree. The team was divided into groups of 4 and assigned a tree. The project surveyed approximately 75 trees on the school grounds. The project will help the the town by surveying trees and their conditions. We used homemade clinometers to measure the height. We also used tape measures to find the circumference and crown base radius. We found the age of the tree by multiplying each eighth of an inch in the radius by one.

Of the trees we studied, there were,

Many of the trees had decay, cut limbs, and dead parts. We recorded this information down on our tree condition sheet. To our surprise, a lot of trees were in poor condition. The trees were too close to the road, adjacent to other trees, and the roots didn't have room to grow. Each season we will go out and take a picture of our tree and put it in our project.

We are going to invite our parents to the school and we will take them on a walk around all the trees. We will ask the parents to duplicate this study at home by picking a tree in their yard. They will find the height of the tree, the condition, and the age of the tree.
