Community
Atlas Project
Using GIS and online mapping sites, students create profiles of their communities.
Some projects address issues of environmental concern and use maps to illustrate
the problem and offer solutions.
Jason
Project
This project is Led by Dr. Robert Ballard and is currently in its 15th year.
Students have the ability to interact with research scientists as they explore
some of the world's most intriguing regions. This year the Jason project
will visit the rainforests of Panama.
Global
Sun Temperature Project
In this project students from around the world keep investigate the influence
of geographic location on temperature and hours of sunlight. This project
is an annual favorite of many teachers and students.
ISS
EarthKAM Project
In this project students target specific areas on the earth's surface and
request that images be taken remotely from the International Space Station.
Photographs are then made available on the Internet.
A webquest is an activity where some or all of the information is obtained
through the internet. Typically webquests are focused on an "essential
question" which require students to organize and analyze information
to arrive at new understandings.They are a great way to investigate many
topics as they force students to examine subjects from different points
of view and arrive at their own conclusions. The links below show both the
"how to" of webquests and give some examples of webquests you
may want to try with your classes.

resource on the Net, with training materials for teachers and links to numerous
WebQuests they have designed.
WebQuests for Learning
This site offers expert advice by Tom March on developing WebQuests and
the theory behind this learning strategy. Examples and descriptions for
each element of a WebQuest are included.

Polo, Internet content for the Classroom: an outstanding site which
contains lessons, student activities and professionally reviewed sites.
MArco Polo has 7 outstanding partner sites which include Arts Edge, Econ
EdLink, Illuminations (NCTM site), Science NetLinks, Xpeditions (National
Geographic), Read, Write, Think (International Reading Association), and
EdSitement. It should be a "first stop" on the Internet for all
