ISS EarthKAM

Seventh grade students on Lynx team participated in an exciting NASA-sponsored project called ISS EarthKAM from October 15-19, 2004. Using the Internet they targeted places on the earth's surface and requested that a camera aboard the International Space Station take photographs. Within a matter of hours the photographs were available on the Internet. Click here to visit the ISS EarthKAM site to learn more about this exciting project and to view some of the amazing photographs of earth taken from space.

In addition to taking photographs from space the students are also learning how to interpret remotely sensed images.

Presently the international space station is manned by two individuals, an American astronaut, William McArthur and a Russian cosmonaut, Valeri Tukarev. They have been aboard the ISS since October 3, 2005 and will return to earth in April 8, 2006. Click on their pictures to view a biography of each.

William S. McArthur, commander

Valeri Tukarev, flight engineer

Below are some of the photos taken by the students druing previous missions. They are "out of this world"! A total of 1974 photographs were taken by the students during this mission. Click here to see pictures of WMS students working on this project and to view some of the photos they took.
