The metamorphosis of the monarch from caterpillar to butterfly:
![]() |
Mrs. Davis Language Arts students observed a Monarch Caterpillars metamorphosis during September and early October. On September 27, the day that Charles H. brought in the caterpillar, it was already in a J shape. That same day it turned into the pupa, or chrysalis stage. It shed its black and yellow stripes and became a greenish color. Then it formed two gold dots and grew a silver line. We observed this on the 28th of September. |

The next stage we observed was the pupa stage when the chrysalis turned transparent on Friday, October 7. We thought it would come out of its chrysalis over the weekend. |

Instead, that same day it came out of its chrysalis at 9:30. |

Later on, at 10:30, we brought the butterfly outside and watched her slowly climb a tree. |

At approximately 12:15 we saw the Monarch rise into the air and fly away. It was very exciting and we enjoyed watching the whole process. by Dan G. |
