DIRECTIONS FOR PROBLEMS OF THE WEEK

I.  PROBLEM STATEMENT

Restate the problem using your own words.  Write clearly enough so that someone picking up your paper could understand exactly what you were asked to do. Include all important &  necessary facts and leave out  unnecessary information.

II.  PLAN        
Is this problem like any other POW you’ve done?  If so, which? Does this look like a one-step or a multi-step problem?Tell which strategy  you will use to solve the problem.  Some examples are: make a table, draw a picture, work backwards, use objects, make an organized list,  guess and check, find a pattern, logical reasoning, *keep in mind that when you work through the problem you may use more than 1 strategy or have to switch strategies.

III.  WORK
Explain in detail what you did to solve the problem.  Use charts, graphs or diagrams where appropriate so that someone could follow your “thinking”. Tell what worked, what didn’t work, what you did when you got stuck. Did you have to change the strategy from your “plan” to solve the problem? Did you get help from anyone?  Who?  What kind of help?

IV.  ANSWER
Clearly and concisely state your answer(s) to the problem.Does the answer make sense?  Could there be other correct answers?  What did you learn from this problem that could help you to solve other problems?

V.  RATING
Rate how difficult you think this problem was.  Use a scale of 1 - 10 with ten being the most difficult and one being the easiest.  Tell how much time you spent working on this problem.VI.  COVER SHEETMake a cover sheet for your POW work.  Include your name, the date, and your class.  Write a title for your POW.  Decorate your cover sheet in any way you wish to make it attractive and to illustrate the POW in some way.
