WMS HISTORY

Wickford Middle School sits on the edge of Wickford Village located in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

Incorporated in 1674, North Kingstown is a small town on the west side of Narragansett Bay. It is comprised of nine villages, with Wickford as the center of town and the seat of local government.

The building where Wickford Middle School is housed was originally built in 1931 to accommodate students in grades seven through twelve - at that time it was called North Kingstown Junior/Senior High School. In 1951 the north wing 1 was added to accommodate more students.

In the fall of 1959 the ninth through twelfth grade students were moved to the new high school and this site became Wickford Junior High School. The next change came in 1976 when sixth grade students entered and it became Wickford Middle School. One last addition was built the next year when the gymnasium was added to the south end of the building.

Wickford Middle is home now to 485 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students from the south end of town.
