Industrial arts classes are completing the secondtrimester of the 2003-04 school year. After an introductory unit on shop safety students began working on projects. Students in grades 6 and 7 may choose from among the following projects: birdhouse, bird feeder,flower box or mailbox.They begin by designing the project; they then draw up plans for the project; finally they build. In the 8th grade students may build whatever they would like. Examples of student projects include everything from chess boards to tables.
At the end of the school year a contest is held where the birdhouses are judged by the adults in the building. The best project of the year is awarded $100. Additional prizes of $50 are awarded to the best male and the best female project in each grade.
Below are samples of student work. The students used their imagination and creativity to produce a wide variety of birdhouses.
