The Speakers of Other Languages Parent Advisory Committee is a parent-teacher group that meets quarterly to discuss topics of interest to parents of ELL students and to foster parental involvement. Join us from 5p - 6:30p on October 25th, January 17th, and March 28th at the NKSD Central Administration offices, 100 Romano Vineyard Way.
Adult English Classes
One of our ELL teachers, Mrs. Cindy Warburton, leads classes for parents of ELL students who want to improve their English language skills. Speakers of all levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) are welcome. It's a chance for parents to meet in a very relaxed setting. The group meets weekly in the community room at Kingstown Crossings, 11 Merrill Lane, North Kingstown, RI. For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Since 1986, this annual event has been a district-wide culminating activity for all current and former ELL students and their families. The picnic is typically held on the Friday before Memorial Day. Hot dogs, lemonade, and delicious foods from countries across the world are shared by all in celebration of the conclusion of each successful school year.
ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 is a secure large-scale English language proficiency assessment administered to Kindergarten through 12th-grade students who have been identified as English language learners (ELLs). It is given annually in WIDA Consortium member states (including Rhode Island) to monitor students' progress in acquiring academic English. The test is aligned with the WIDA English Language Development Standards and assesses each of the four language domains of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
