2018 NK Teacher of the Year
We are proud to announce the 2018 Teacher of the Year Award recipient:
Social Studies teacher at Davisville Middle School
The North Kingstown Teacher of the Year has been a teacher for twenty-seven years and has taught Social Studies in NK for over twenty years. Sandra makes student learning a priority. Students participate in a Silk Road journey that culminates with donations to the NK Food Pantry. She has also organized the Soup for Syria fundraiser and the Blessings in a Backpack fundraiser. Students appreciate other cultures through meeting guests from around the world. These have included a Master TAIKO drummer from Japan, Vietnam and Korean War veterans, a Holocaust survivor, a Korean paper maker, and an African drummer! During her summers, she has participated in educational programs in Japan, Korea, and the Philippines. She has also established an ongoing relationship with the Japan Society of New York with students visiting New York and guests visiting NK. She attends many conferences, has presented at many, and has also participated in the RI Teacher at Sea Program. Sandra is truly an inspiring and dedicated teacher.
