I am thrilled to join the Davisville Academy and Early Learning Center School as your new school nurse! With over 25 years of experience in pediatric nursing, I have dedicated my career to caring for children and supporting their health and well-being. This is my fifth year working in our district, with more than ten years of experience as a school nurse. I look forward to collaborating with students, families, and staff to create a safe, healthy, and supportive environment where every child can thrive.

Your child needs to stay home when showing signs and symptoms of illness.

Please call the Clinic at (401) 398-0695 when you anticipate your child will be tardy or absent. If your child is out ill, it is helpful to know their symptoms to determine whether an outbreak of a particular illness is occurring at the school.

Speaking with the nurse helps us monitor health trends within our school community and ensures that our health policy is followed, keeping all students safe and well.

Below is a summary of when to keep your child home from school based on the NKSD policy NSBA #JLCE p.5:

  • Fever: A temperature over 100.4°F. Your child should remain home until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication.

  • Vomiting or Diarrhea: Your child must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school.

  • Strep Throat: Your child should be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours and be feeling well enough to participate before returning.

  • Bacterial Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye): Your child must be on antibiotic ointment or drops for 24 hours before returning to school.

  • Flu or Other Viral Illnesses: Please keep your child home until they are feeling better and can fully participate in school activities.

  • Other Symptoms: Children should stay home when they have purulent (discolored) drainage from the nose or eyes, excessive fatigue, or a persistent cough that they cannot cover.

Please note, this is not an all-inclusive list, but it highlights the most common illnesses we see during this time of year.

ASPEN WORK FLOWS

Would you like to update your child's medical information?

Do you need to add parental permissions for over-the-counter medications?

EMERGENCY CARDS

Before school starts, we ask that you update your child’s emergency card information through the Aspen Family Portal. The card is very important because it tells us who to contact in case of injury or illness to a child. No child will be released to anyone not listed on the emergency card. Please immediately update any changes to the card in the ASPEN system.

MEDICATION IN SCHOOL

All medications, with the exception of Tylenol and ibuprofen, require a Medication Permission Form signed by the child’s physician and legal guardian. Controlled substances (i.e., Adderall, Ritalin) must be brought to the clinic by the child’s parent or guardian in the original container and will be administered by the nurse per the prescribing doctor’s order. Please contact the nurse for more information.
