Principal's Message

Dr. Scheller’s Yearbook Message for 2021

As I sit down to write this yearbook message and reflect upon the 2020-2021 school year, I do so with a happy heart because I have the distinct pleasure of being the principal of this awesome school we call Forest Park Elementary. This year, things were different. We started off the year not knowing how long we would be able to sustain in-person learning. We also started a new endeavor for our distance learners, working with the district to create and maintain a Distance Learning Academy, in which our students would have teachers housed in 2 other Elementary School buildings throughout the year. Through it all, Forest Park students, families, faculty and staff remained resilient and persevered. We continued to strive for academic excellence while lifting one another up through the challenges that we faced as survivors of the COVID-19 pandemic that plagued our nation.

There were days we had to recognize what we lost; our sense of normalcy had changed. We had to stay in our pods, even during recess and lunch. Library, music and art had to take place in our classroom space so that we could ensure everyone's health and overall safety. Yet, we continued to flourish as individuals and as a school community, even under our new norm. With a sense of renewed optimism, we continued to celebrate our successes by recognizing student academic excellence and personal growth through our Student of the Month and Eagle awards. We held our School-Wide Spelling Bee, our annual Spelling Bee and our Winter Wonderland Assembly. We built new outdoor classroom spaces and enjoyed the beautiful weather every chance we could by eating, playing and learning outside.

We kept our legacy of giving back to the community by collecting canned goods for the NK Food pantry during our Turkey Trot and our Souper Bowl, and by collecting funds through our Pennies for Patients Campaign. We saw State testing as an opportunity to show all that we had learned and gave our best effort. We showed one another compassion by being better listeners, sharing our own struggles and picking one another up when we were feeling down and out.

As we enter the summer months, I know I will look back fondly on so many memories from this past school year. I hope that each and every one of you can and will do the same. To my resilient, kind hearted and forever curious Fifth graders- I know this year was different than what other Fifth grade Forest Park students in the past had experienced. With dignity and grace, you led the school through a year of the unknown. Always remember the friends you made and the bonds you built here at Forest Park. Always remember:

We are Forest Park Eagles, flying High,

With teamwork and effort, we can reach the sky,

We show respect and responsibility,

And learn to be the best that we can be!

Have a happy, healthy and restful summer!
